Back to Dexter Subject Directory Contents 3) Dexter Breed Information UNDER CONSTRUCTION Below is the original entry from 2002 which requires updating and revision The websites of national Dexter organisations often have a section on the Dexter breed, its history, and performance characteristics - see, for example, American Dexter Cattle Association and Dexter Cattle Society UK. Some breeder websites also have breed information sections (for a Dutch-language example, see www.delindehof.myweb.nl). Some provide a link to breed information held on another site. There are some other kinds of websites that also provide Dexter breed information, especially University and zoo sites. For example, two that often rank high on search engines are those of the Department of Animal Science, Oklahoma State University (this information is mainly an older version of that provided by the American Dexter Cattle Association) and Seattle’s Woodland Park Zoo’s Dexter fact sheet. Specialist livestock or cattle sites may also offer breed information, such as Cattle Today which provides a rather brief account. The New Zealand Rare Breeds website has a page on the Dexter breed which also has a link to an informative page on “Grading Up Programmes”. There are comments on Dexters from a South African source, DNAfrica. This is an extract from a book “South African Livestock Breeding 1998”.
