"Dexter Bull Entries in the Kerry and Dexter Herd Book, Volume One, 1890"

Royal Dublin Society

In January 1887, the "Farmer's Gazette" published the first register of Dexter (and Kerry) cattle in Ireland. This ran for about three years and was then published by the Royal Dublin Society as the Kerry and Dexter Herdbook, with  Volume 1 appearing in 1890. The Irish Kerry and Dexter Society was not formed until 1917. Duncan MacIntyre, a Vet and Dexter breeder on the Isle of Bute in Scotland, scanned the following information from an original of the Herdbook and sent it to the webmaster who typed out the entries.

NOTES: Care has been taken to type out these entries accurately but the occasional minor error may have slipped the checking. Not all entries have the same information - day and month of birth, breeder, earmark number, etc seemed not to have been available for all entries. Some entries provide more information than others, e.g. name of sire and dam. "Calved" presumably means "born".
