Crofter Mains Dexter Cattle Stud

Heather Cunningham and John Paterson

Te Pahu, New Zealand

We chose Dexters because:

* their smallness suits our often steep and muddy smallfarm *

* they are distinctive and have an interesting history *

We fell in love with Dexters because of their personality and ease of handling

Our herd started in mid-2000 with three G1 heifer calves - Special Girl, Shadow Rush and Thunder Child - the result of Dexter semen being put into Jersey cows

Then in September 2000 we purchased a dun fullblood cow - Volvo Lodge Dun Wunda - and then a black bull in 2001 - Kenilworth Churchill

Dun Wunda has had three short-leg black heifers sired by Churchill - Crofter Mains Tarabuco, Crofter Mains Oruro, and Crofter Mains Caliente, all named after places in South America that Heather visited a couple of years ago.
