Crofter Mains Shadow Rush is a deep red, short-legged cow, born 27 July 2000

Sire = Silky Oaks Renegade (polled, short-leg, red)

Dam = Jersey dairy cow owned by a neighbour

Named after a phrase in a song by Scottish folk-rock group, Runrig:

In the smallness of one heartbeat, power overthrown

In the oneness of the journey for a homing soul

With the spirits of the mighty since day began

A shadow rushes through the grasslands to the dying sun

(Song - "Healer in Your Heart"; Album - "The Big Wheel")

She was raised by hand from five days old and has turned into the ideal smallfarm cow for us - a great friend and companion, a good representative of the short-leg Dexter type, and a great mother

John with Shadow Rush as a young calf.            Heather with a 15 month old Shadow Rush.

When bred to a Kenilworth Churchill, a black beefy-type bull, she produced two nice beefy black steers. When bred by AI to Brambledel Redberry Prince, a red UK bull, she produced another beefy steer, this one red in colour

Shadow Rush with her first calf, Headlights.            Del Boy, son of Shadow Rush and Brambledel Redberry Prince, at 5 months of age.
