Crofter Mains Shadow Rush is a deep red, short-legged cow, born 27 July 2000 Sire = Silky Oaks Renegade (polled, short-leg, red) Dam = Jersey dairy cow owned by a neighbour
Named after a phrase in a song by Scottish folk-rock group, Runrig:
In the smallness of one heartbeat, power overthrown In the oneness of the journey for a homing soul With the spirits of the mighty since day began A shadow rushes through the grasslands to the dying sun (Song - "Healer in Your Heart"; Album - "The Big Wheel")
She was raised by hand from five days old and has turned into the ideal smallfarm cow for us - a great friend and companion, a good representative of the short-leg Dexter type, and a great mother
When bred to a Kenilworth Churchill, a black beefy-type bull, she produced two nice beefy black steers. When bred by AI to Brambledel Redberry Prince, a red UK bull, she produced another beefy steer, this one red in colour
